Message from the Board of Education

Excellence For All

Board of EducationThe Cherry Creek School District was founded in 1950 and since then, our citizens have worked to build a quality school system that delivers an outstanding educational experience. We are fortunate to be part of a community that strongly values education. Excellent schools provide a well-educated workforce and support strong and stable property values.

Because of your steadfast support, our district is nationally recognized for educational excellence. We celebrate high levels of student achievement in academics, athletics and the arts. Consider these accomplishments:

  • Our students continue to score above the state average on CSAP tests and above the state and national averages on ACT and SAT tests.
  • Our high school teams have won 51 state championships and 49 second-place titles in the past seven years.
  • Our 2009 graduates earned more than $33 million in scholarship funds.
  • 99% of our teachers are considered “Highly Qualified” under the No Child Left Behind Act.
  • Our district is “Accredited with Distinction,” the highest rating possible under the Colorado Department of Education’s new accreditation system.

Together we have accomplished much, but we must do more. The world has become more complex and competitive. Our children must have a strong educational foundation on which to build a successful future. Our own future, as individuals and as a nation, depends on our ability to meet the educational needs of our increasingly diverse student population.

In Cherry Creek, 37 percent of our students are students of color. More than 6,100 students come from homes where English is not the primary language. Our families speak more than 100 different world languages. More than 5,500 students receive Special Education services. Twenty-four percent of our students qualify for free and reduced price lunch, based on federal poverty level guidelines.

Fortunately, the Cherry Creek School District is positioned for progress toward its goals. Last year, Cherry Creek voters approved both budget and bond elections, giving the district financial stability at a time of economic crisis. Your support allows us to improve our facilities, strengthen our programs, and recruit, develop and retain the finest teachers, administrators and support staff.

Together, we can fulfill the district’s mission “To inspire every student to think, to learn, to achieve, to care” and continue to move steadily toward our ultimate goal of “excellence for all.”
